Positive reactions is something we not always get. Do not get me wrong our work is of excellent quality and so are our prices. But think of us and what we do and imagine us talking with a Dutch bank manager…..

“We redevelop chateaus, estates, we build passive homes and yes we have our own building materials website and some dealerships all related to our redevelopment work”
“I am sorry Chateaus, estates….here in the Netherlands?”
“Yes but also in France and the UK”
Eyebrows are raised, we get a friendly chat, if we are lucky a cup of coffee and that is the conversation. Talking about funding is not possible.
Of course I put the above conversation here in a limited version and funding is not only depending on just a conversation about what we do however it does indicate how difficult it is to get funding and above all sometimes to explain what you do if you are not working in the well-known mainstream trades (as it is not only banks who ask us the question).
Funding for projects like redevelopment of a chateau is again a niche market. It is often not always a simple calculation of return on investment but also one of emotion on investment. Some banks do understand this but often it is more likely private individuals funding these projects.
The projects often ask for many skills. It can range from a simple renovation till a full redevelopment with some special demands like helicopter hangars or kitchens with cookers you have never seen. I can say I do feel good after such a project when the funder or owner tells me I now do fully understand what you do! You want another project?
